The Passing of a Giant of Justice

When applying to law school, I had to write an essay about why I wanted to go to law school.  The essence of the answer was to bring justice to all Americans.  On a daily basis, that continues to be my goal.  The American Association of Justice, to which I belong, shares that goal.  Here’s an excerpt from the AAJ’s press release on the passing of US Representative John Lewis.  May his lifelong fight for justice be a beacon that guides all of us to make a more perfect union.

With the passing of U.S. Rep. John Lewis, today we mourn a giant of justice. John Lewis committed his life to freedom, equality and basic human rights. He embodied the essence of fighting for justice, especially in the areas of voting and civil rights, stating, the right to “vote is precious, almost sacred. It is the most powerful non-violent tool we have to create a more perfect union.”

He was willing to put his life on the line for those causes and became the standard bearer for pushing back against injustice.
