Sadly, those with malintent often target our most vulnerable populations, including our seniors. Such fraud may take the form of telemarketing scams, wherein telemarketers tell our seniors they can get medications or durable medical equipment for free. All they have to do is provide their Medicare numbers. The only problem – rarely do these seniors need the items they are sold. Another form of fraud is where doctors tell seniors they need certain evaluations or tests where such tests are not indicated. The patient trusts these untrustworthy practitioners, and Medicare, and thus all of us, pay the price. These are but a couple of examples of fraud against our seniors. We should all do our best to watch out for our seniors and make sure that no one is trying to take advantage of them.
